The Turkish-Kuwaiti diplomatic relations started with the accreditation of the Turkish Embassy in Beirut to Kuwait in 1969. The resident Turkish Embassy in Kuwait was opened in 1971. The resident Embassy of Kuwait in Ankara assumed its duty in 1972. Kuwaiti Consulate General in Istanbul opened in 2005.

Turkey is seen as an important regional power in Kuwait. In this regard, all internal and external developments related to Turkey are closely followed by the Kuwaiti government, media and the public. The Kuwaiti government demonstrates a positive and friendly approach in matters related to Turkey. After a long period of relative calm, our bilateral relations have gained momentum in recent years thanks to the increasing number of high level visits, particularly on the level of Heads of States, Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers. On these occasions, Turkey and Kuwait have signed many agreements, accomplishing the bilateral legal framework between the two countries and developing the opportunities for cooperation in various fields.

Since 2005, Kuwait has chosen Turkey as one of the priority investment destinations, along with China, Vietnam, Morocco and Egypt. In this context, Kuwait is closely following many privatization and investment projects in Turkey. Accordingly, there has been an important rise in Kuwait-originated foreign direct investments in Turkey.

The Kuwaiti companies in Turkey operate mainly in finance, real estate, trade and industry sectors and show a growing interest to the privatization projects as well as for the purchase of firms.

In the context of Turkish-Kuwaiti trade relations, Bilateral trade volume became 568 million U. S. Dollars in 2014.
