H.E. Ghassan Yousuf A. Alzawawi, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Turkey,
Dear Kayıhan Bağdatlı, General Manager of Limak İnşaat Kuwait S.P.C.,
Dr. Raed Buresli, Active Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University,
Dr. Bader AlBusairi, Head of Engineering and Training Alumni Center at Kuwait University,

Dear engineers,
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to thank Limak for inviting me to the Graduation Ceremony of the Kuwait’s Engineer Girls Program Generation Two.

I am excited to be part of this meaningful event. I am excited mainly for two reasons. The first reason is, I am an engineer, too. You must have heard the saying “a world without an engineer is just like a bike without wheels”. It is so true. As we all witness, development of scientific-technical progress goes hand in hand with economic prospects. Therefore, those countries who pay greater attention to promoting the engineering profession, achieve greater success.

It brings me to the second reason for my excitement. I do represent a country, Turkey, where women touch engineering; where more women choose engineering. According to the 2018 data by the Turkish Union of Chambers of Engineers and Architects, 11,000 of the 106,000 registered members of the Chamber of Civil Engineers are women, whereas 9,492 of the 103,700 members of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers are women. The ratio of female engineers, according to the said Chamber’s membership, is above 22% in Turkey.

This makes me a proud women engineer, as well as a proud Ambassador this evening.

Dear guests,

As Kayıhan Bey just mentioned in his speech, Limak is making a difference in various fields not only in Turkey, but also around the world. I believe Limak’s initiative “Kuwait’s Engineer Girls” will make a difference, too. The project, which aims to bring more young female engineers of Kuwait to practice their profession, definitely deserves attention and appreciation.

Let me finish my remarks by addressing my dear young women engineer colleagues.

Today, 30 of you complete the second generation of the project. In fact, few weeks ago, I met four of you, when I visited the construction site of Kuwait’s new airport. I had the opportunity to listen about your experience at this project.

Now, you are ready to assume your roles to contribute to the future of Kuwait. I strongly hope that you will also contribute to the already excellent relations between Turkey and Kuwait.

I wish you all good luck in your future career, as well as health and happiness in your personal lives.

Thank you.

Atatürk
